Student Support
At Markham College, our Student Support and Counselling Department is dedicated to guiding the learning journey and development of every student, from Early Years through to graduation. We provide a comprehensive learning experience, nurturing students’ social and emotional growth through prevention, intervention, and individualized case management. Our approach is tailored to meet the unique needs of each age group, ensuring that every student feels supported.
The Personal and Social Education (PSE) Programme is an essential part of each student’s curriculum. Our goal is to accompany students in building their identities while developing crucial social and emotional skills.
Through PSE, students learn to cultivate healthy, balanced relationships with themselves and others. Led by our team of psychologists, tutors, and heads of year, this programme equips students with the tools to navigate personal challenges, prevent risky behaviours, and make informed decisions for their future well-being.
Our team of psychologists is dedicated to supporting the socio-emotional and academic growth of students throughout their time at Markham College. We implement initiatives that foster healthy adaptation and integration into school life, working closely with teachers and heads of year to address each student’s needs. We also prioritize collaboration with parents, ensuring that families are actively involved in supporting student success. Student safety, well-being, and personal growth are at the core of everything we do.
Preventing and responding to potential risk situations is fundamental to our work. We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy on bullying, addressing all cases swiftly and compassionately. Our goal is to help every student build assertive and healthy relationships for the future.
Socio-emotional support is key to students’ overall development and well-being. Our counselling team provides continuous guidance and monitoring for students who are experiencing challenges that may impact their well-being or performance. Each grade level has a dedicated counsellor who works closely with the Head of Year and tutors to ensure students receive the care and support they need. This collaborative effort includes active participation from students, parents, teachers, and, when necessary, external specialists.
Our Learning Support team, led by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), works with teachers across all sections of the school to help students realize their full potential. We respect and accommodate individual learning styles and needs, offering support both inside and outside the classroom. This personalized approach allows students to discover new ways of learning and achieve their academic goals. Collaboration with parents and, when needed, external specialists, ensures that every student’s learning journey is a partnership aimed at achieving the best possible outcomes.
The University Counselling Department at Markham College helps students discover their potential and make informed choices about their future. Beginning in Secondary 3, students explore different career paths through activities integrated into PSE lessons and additional sessions involving students and parents. This process encourages students to reflect on their interests, passions, and strengths as they plan for life after graduation.
Our university counsellors provide individualized support, guiding students through the exploration of university opportunities both in Peru and abroad. We offer personalized assessments and bring in representatives from top universities worldwide—including the USA, UK, Canada, and many more—to give students the information they need to make confident decisions about their future studies. Each year, over 100 university representatives visit Markham College, offering valuable insights to both students and parents.
