Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award offers 14-24 year-olds an opportunity to discover new interests while developing essential skills for life and work. Achieving an Award isn’t about being first but rather about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.

A recognised mark of achievement respected by employers, the International Award programme can be achieved at the Bronze, Silver or Gold levels. It involves helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity. Through an International Award programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing university applications.

At Markham College we use amazing locations outside of Lima for the adventurous journeys, which have included the mountains around San Bartolome, the deserts of Ica, the famous Marcahuasi hilltop, the Chavin and Santa Cruz treks in the Cordillera Blanca and Kuelap and Gocta in the northern highlands.
