Primary 6 to Sixth Form
At the Secondary School, renowned for its high academic standards, the learning experience becomes more challenging. Our students succeed with support from our outstanding teachers and counsellors.
Student choices are a key factor in secondary education. Markham education is all about the best individual pathway for students, ensuring the best choice of subjects and activities to meet their needs. We offer a broad curriculum from P6 to S2, with students undertaking 15 subjects. As children grow, they discover more about themselves, their skills, and their interests, and they have the opportunity to specialise in subjects that excite them through our Cambridge IGCSE Programme directed at S3 and S4 students. In S5 and 6B, they continue to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, a prestigious and globally recognised pre-university pathway.
The Secondary facilities in the San Antonio campus offer modern science and arts centres, football pitch, swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts and more sports facilities.
In the new science labs, children create and conduct their own experiments. Students understand the scientific method of inquiry and discovery through a hands-on approach.
Food and Nutrition is another subject offered. As part of this course, students work on an entrepreneurial restaurant project.
Design and Technology is a subject that has also revolutionised the way students look at solving problems and develop an entrepreneurial mindset. These labs combine the theoretical side of computer-aided design with the physical side of creation.

Primary 1 to Primary 5

The learning journey continues in Primary School. The primary section consists of Grade 1 to Grade 5 students. Markham is working towards the Markham IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) which is a flexible framework and has an inquiry approach, building collaboration and agency to give the best learning experience in the best learning spaces. The new world-class primary facilities will open in 2024 in the Monterrico campus. The new building, designed by Danish and Spanish architects Rosan Bosch and IDOM, reflects the school’s advanced pedagogic approach.
The school is moving away from the traditional four-wall classroom, developing flexible learning spaces that encourage independent learning in different environments. Teachers are developing new ways of working and collaborating across groups and disciplines in our ‘Learning Communities’ already built in the San Antonio Campus. Architect Rosan Bosch´s Studio has worked with the school to show how breakout spaces and rooms for immersion give students at Markham more autonomy and choices in planning and executing their own learning journey.

The design includes greatly improved science labs and an ICT, design, coding and robotics innovation centre. There will be a food science lab to explore nutrition as a science, performance centres for theatre and music and spaces for visual art exhibitions. Sports will be key, with the field acting as a village green at the heart of the community. The sports centre will have competition courts, an indoor gymnastics area, and swimming pools for different ages and development levels.
Primary Curriculum-PYP
The new Primary Curriculum to the IB – PYP will help us to provide highly effective teaching and learning through which students are motivated to take authentic action to help the world around them. We want our students to become caring, knowledgeable and inquiring young people.
The PYP programme is student centred, driven by meaningful inquiries which develop conceptual understanding and key skills in order for our students to be active, compassionate and lifelong learners.

Foundation Stage 1 to Kinder
Ages 3 - 6
Children from 3 to 7 years of age start the Markham journey in Early Years with a well-qualified team of teachers, assistants, and helpers. They are committed to fostering each child’s unique social, emotional, and intellectual development. This holistic approach is supported by a well-researched pedagogy aimed at delivering a high standard of teaching and learning.
Curriculum and Pedagogy
Underpinning our approach are the three core principles from the British Early Years Foundation Stage: unique child, positive relationships, and enabling environments. Through a play-based approach focused on learning and development, we ensure all our young learners achieve a rounded and balanced education.
This includes English immersion and a wide variety of extracurricular activities that challenge and engage children from a very young age. Sports, music, arts, service, and outdoor activities will help develop children’s abilities and confidence, acquiring the knowledge, skills, and responsibilities needed for facing and overcoming challenges. We focus on three areas of learning: Communication and language, personal and social development, and physical development.
In Kinder, children finish the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. The main language of instruction is English, although in Primary we encourage reading, writing and communicating in Spanish.
Children participate in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) activities where they learn skills and values transferable to areas of life outside the classroom.
English Immersion Programme
Total English immersion is applied from the first day of classes and after four years in this programme, our pupils are able to read, write and express themselves in English. Most of all, they enjoy doing so!
Communication between Home and School
All our students have a Digital Portfolio based on the Seesaw platform, which creates a powerful learning bridge between students, teachers, and families. It allows students to show their learning, empower reflection on their learning over time and helps them create something they’re proud to share with others.
It is a great tool for teachers which allows them to understand student thinking and progress. It also helps teachers identify their strengths and areas for growth in real-time so that they can differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all the students.
Families gain a window into student’s learning, feel part of the school community and are able to celebrate their children’s progress.
Parents’ meetings are programmed throughout the year. Target setting reports are shared with parents in May and September, and full reports in July and December. We invite parents to come into the classrooms at our Open Afternoons and at our parent / teacher / student conferences where the children themselves reflect on what they have learned and set new learning targets. Additionally, parents are always welcome to request interviews with staff whenever the need arises.
