Student Support
At Markham College, the Primary School Student Support Department is dedicated to nurturing each student’s social-emotional growth and ensuring a positive school experience. We provide personalized support, prevention strategies, and interventions when necessary, always respecting the unique needs and diversity of every child.
Our approach is holistic, and we focus on three key areas to promote student well-being:

This programme plays a vital role in helping students develop a strong sense of self and essential social-emotional skills. It encourages them to build healthy relationships with themselves, others, and the wider communities with which they will engage throughout their lives. The programme also equips students with the tools they need to make informed decisions, avoid risks, and navigate the challenges they may face at different stages of their development.
In P4 and P5, the curriculum places particular emphasis on physical growth, body awareness, and sexual health. These discussions involve both students and parents and are led by our school psychologists in collaboration with homeroom teachers.
Our Counseling Department comprises three psychologists and two interns who offer support in both social-emotional development and learning processes. They help students integrate smoothly into school life and ensure they feel supported throughout their journey.
Collaboration with teachers is key, as is communication with parents. By working together, we ensure that each student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We engage parents through various channels: informative talks, small group discussions, and personal meetings focused on their child’s individual progress.
We also take a proactive approach to prevent and address any issues within the school environment. Our zero-tolerance policy for bullying is central to our work, and we use restorative practices to help students reflect, learn, and build healthier relationships moving forward.
Our Learning Support Programme is staffed by five dedicated teachers who work closely with classroom teachers to tailor learning strategies to each child’s unique needs and pace. Whether inside or outside the classroom, this support encourages students to explore new ways of learning, enabling them to meet their academic goals while feeling confident and engaged.
The collaboration extends to parents, who receive regular updates on their child’s progress and additional resources to support learning at home.
By integrating these three areas, we offer students a well-rounded learning experience that prioritizes personal growth, social skills, and academic achievement. At Markham, we see each student as a whole individual, and our commitment is to support their journey every step of the way.
