Roald Dahl Day

Roald Dahl is one of the most valued child novelists of all time, his magical worlds spun with his wit, wonder and gobblefunk have been delighting kids since his first children’s book (James and the Giant Peach, 1961) and they continue to captivate children today.

On 13 September we invited all the students at Lower School to celebrate Dahl’s birthday through a series of fun activities. We took advantage of the breaks and English lessons to do:

  • A Fantastic Mr Fox steeplechase relay with rubber chickens
  • BFG dream jars
  • A search for the golden tickets around the school to be redeemed for Wonka Bars
  • Oompa Loompa face painting
  • A collaborative art mural recycling snack rubbish into Mr Twit’s beard
  • An Amanda Thripp hoop toss where the winners were treated to some of Matilda’s friend, Bruce, chocolate cake

It was truly a whoopsy whiffling day!
