Day 19 – Wednesday, 7th August

08.30          Bath to Stonehenge to London

We depart The Bath Youth Hostel after breakfast with a packed lunch and all our luggage and transfer to The Rotherhithe Youth Hostel in London.

10.30          Stonehenge

We will stop at Stonehenge en-route to London for a visit to the mysterious circle of stones on Salisbury plain.   Stonehenge is Britain’s most well known megalithic monument.  Controversy surrounds its building and purpose, but most agree that it may have been built between 3000-1500 B.C., possibly as a sun temple or astronomical observatory.  Some of the major blue stones are thought to have been transported from a quarry in southwest Wales, hauled by rollers to the coast, and floated by raft across the Severn estuary.

12.00          Continue to London

15.00          Tour of Buckingham Palace

We will visit the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace.  Buckingham Palace serves not only as the office but home for the Queen, whose personal standard flies whenever Her Majesty is in residence.  We will see the State Rooms which are used extensively by the Queen and members of the Royal family to receive and entertain their guests on state, ceremonial and Official occasions.  The magnificent rooms contain some of the finest works of art from the Royal collection.

17.30          Return to Hostal for Evening Meal and Activities
