| Outdoor Educational Programme Overview
Markham College has a comprehensive Outdoor Education Programme with yearly camps for students ages 9 to 15 (Primary 4 to Secondary 3). This programme makes full use of the amazing natural diversity Peru has to offer. The camps are situated in or close to beach areas, the Andes Mountains, world-recognised archaeological sites, National Parks and the Amazon jungle.
Leadership, co-operating with others, initiative and a love for the environment are some of the important life skills students develop at these camps. Senior students accompany the younger year groups participating as assistant leaders as part of our commitment to leadership training. These assistant leaders are students who are committed to Outdoor Education and who have a genuine concern for younger students. The older students benefit from the experience gained by helping and assisting others. This also provides a good opportunity for younger students to work more closely with the senior students of the school.
After completing the Outdoor Education Programme, students may choose to be involved in the International Award Programme. The main aim of this world-recognized award programme is for students to develop new skills in a variety of areas and to use their time productively. Senior students continue to use and build upon the valuable skills they have been taught in the outdoor education programme. They also experience adventures in more challenging activities and in other more remote locations of Peru. |
