Technology Enhanced Learning
Markham’s ICT facilities exist first and foremost for the purpose of education and we are the pioneer of laptop programmes for schools in South America. The IT curriculum is directly linked to academic projects ensuring that all IT skills are meaningfully applied and not learnt in isolation.
From 2001, all Upper School students from Secondary 2 to the final year of the International Baccalaureate Programme (UB) have a laptop computer which they can use 24-7 to enhance their learning. Students in Primary 6 and Secondary 1 of the Upper School have access to two computer laboratories.
Interactive whiteboards are used in classrooms on both Upper and Lower School campuses and from 2009 clusters of netbooks were introduced into most of the Lower School classrooms so that students could have access to resources and information to help them with their learning activities. The use of netbooks has been very well received by both teachers and students and in 2010 we hope to equip all Lower School classrooms with either Smartboards or netbooks.
Both the San Antonio campus and the Monterrico campus have an inter-connected wireless network infrastructure which gives access to network resources, e-mail, the Internet and the backbone of the whole ICT programme – the school Intranet, which provides access to educational material as well as classroom administration modules.
