Lower School Staff and Pastoral Care
The Lower School Staff are a team of approximately 50 highly-qualified teachers, assistants and specialist staff from Peru and around the world.
The tutor is the primary caretaker of the emotional and developmental needs of each class (there are approximately 25 children per class). In Primary 2 there are also teaching assistants that rotate between the classes as needed. The tutor is responsible for working with students on topics within a special pastoral care programme. These topics are both age appropriate and topical, dealing with issues such as how to build self esteem and how to prevent bullying, for example. A Team Leader is responsible for co-coordinating the tutors and teachers from each year group to ensure the highest standards of education and personalized learning at each level.
A trained emotional psychologist is also on staff in the Lower School and is available for providing guidance to parents, teachers and students on a regular basis. Academic support is also provided to those students who may need extra attention in core subjects such as English, Maths and Spanish. These students participate in a one-on-one or small groups designed to give them the skills and confidence they need to accomplish classroom objectives. Special speakers are invited to provide parental workshops about topics related to children’s social and emotional development.
A shared partnership between parents and the school is considered essential and there are opportunities for parents to be involved in children’s learning through activities such as Family Day, Literacy Promotion Week and the Parent Reading Scheme. The school provides regular opportunities for parents to meet with teachers during each bimester and we encourage parents to make additional appointments with any of their child’s teachers as often as they wish. We encourage open communication between teachers and parents in order to better care for the emotional well-being of each child and to monitor academic progress.
