Top in the World awards
from Cambridge University

Three students from Markham College, Lima, have won prestigious awards from the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) in recognition of their top performance in the November 2009 Cambridge examination session.
CIE’s annual Cambridge Outstanding Achiever Awards Programme celebrates success in Cambridge IGCSE and A Level examinations. Students in over 150 countries enter for Cambridge examinations each year.
Sebastian Ferreyros Arciniega and Alonso Odría Merino received joint Top in the World awards for Cambridge IGCSE Art and Design, and Maria Fernanda Chong Wu received the Top in the World award for IGCSE Spanish Literature.
The Headmaster of Markham College, Mr David Dowdles, comments, 'These awards reflect the continued and outstanding commitment of both the pupils and the staff at the school and we are immensely proud that Sebastian, Maria Fernanda and Alonso have had their efforts and hard work rewarded.' He adds, 'This is not the first time that Markham students have been recognised in this way. Top of the World awards were made in 2008 to Daniela Padilla Barcellos for First Language Spanish, in 2006 to Gonzalo Suito Nicolini for Art and Design, Jessica Santivanez Perez for Spanish Literature and Maria Elena Vargas Delgado for Food and Nutrition and in 2005 to Carola Pareja Villegas for Spanish Literature and Joanne Cottle Bastante for Food and Nutrition'.
Students at Markham enter for an average of 10.1 IGCSE courses and 2009 was a particularly successful year. One student, Sebastian Ferreyros, achieved the best results in the history of Markham, with eleven A* grades plus an A in Music and a C in the notoriously tough Additional Maths examination.
Janet Morris, University of Cambridge International Examinations Director, also sent her congratulatory remarks: ‘I am delighted to have this opportunity to congratulate all the learners and teachers at Markham College who have worked so hard to achieve this success, Thousands of students worldwide enter the Cambridge examinations every year, and it is an incredible achievement to win a Cambridge Top in the World award. Sebastian, Alonso, and Maria Fernanda have done exceptionally well. I wish all the learners who took the Cambridge exams at Markham College every success with their future studies.’
