Admission Criteria

All families are eligible to apply for admission to Markham College

At Markham, consideration is given to families in full agreement with the educational proposals of the school (mission, vision and strategic aims).

We also aim to maintain an appropriate number of students within each class (limited class sizes) and as a co-educational school, we strive to achieve a balance of places between boys and girls; consideration is given in support of these aims.

Often, the number of applicants is greater than the number of places available, and it may not always be possible to offer all families a place.  For this reason, please review the following admission criteria, set in accordance with guidelines from the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities:

  • Siblings of current Markham College students: those currently studying in the College
  • Markham College related families: the children of those families directly associated with the College such as the children of Old Markhamians (OMA) and the children of staff
  • New families: the children of families without any direct relationship to the school, both national and international families

Please note, in accordance with Ministry of Education regulations, Markham College does not evaluate a child applying to Foundation Stage 1 (3-year-olds), Foundation Stage 2 (4-year-olds), Kinder (5-year-olds) or Primary 1 (6-year-olds). All other applicants are subject to written evaluations appropriate to their age and year of entry.

All interested families will receive a copy of the Internal Regulations by email.
