COST

The exchange programme is a non-profit, quid pro quo venture between consenting schools. What this means is that if you go on exchange to another school, a student from another school will attend Markham in your place. In general, the RS exchange school does not charge fees to visiting Markham students, as they continue to pay fees to Markham College. Although Markham has not yet charged for exchanges that have taken place during its summer holidays, an extra payment MAY be required in the near future, given the high administrative costs associated with the process. Most RS schools require a refundable deposit to be paid for extra trips, activities, and incidental medical expenses. This is normally around US$500.

There will be additional cost to your family. They will be expected to host a student in exchange, just as another family or school will look after you. This is absolutely necessary. If you or your family are not interested in hosting a student, then please do not apply.

ACCOMMODATION

When an exchange is arranged with a day school, its families host all visiting exchange students. In this case, visiting students will be cared for by the host family, who cover all board and lodging costs. In the event of an expensive outing or trip, the host may ask for a financial contribution. This will be discussed beforehand so that arrangements can be made.

When an exchange is made with a school with boarding facilities, the Markham student will normally be accommodated in a school dorm or study-bedroom, probably shared with another student of the same sex. This accommodation is supervised over by a full-time house parent, who has complete duty of care.
