WHAT EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES CAN BE TAKEN? A wide range of activities are offered from 2.35 PM to 3.35 PM or 5.15 PM. These may be cultural, artistic, musical, leisure, sporting or service. The more the visitor joins in, the more they will benefit from the exchange experience. We will endeavour to include the visitor in the outdoor and/or ecology studies courses provided in the desert, in the Andes or in the jungle, depending on the time of year. An additional cost will be charged for these visits. Private arrangements may be made with the host family to visit well-known tourist sites, such as Cusco and Machu Picchu. Please be aware that Peru is a big country; its infrastructure is not to the standard of the Developed World; travel times and distances (especially in a Developing World country) are often great, and the cost of visits to areas of difficult access can be elevated. Tourist visits during term time are discouraged. One excursion that RS exchange students are not permitted to join is the annual Promotion Trip. This is a final bonding opportunity exclusively for students in their final year at Markham. Naturally, a healthy alternative for any visiting RS student within this age group is to accompany the school service/adventure project that takes place at the same time as the prom trip. |
