WHAT ACADEMIC PROGRAMME WILL THE VISITING STUDENT FOLLOW? This depends on the age of the student. Students in P6 to S2 (grades 7 to 9) follow general preparatory courses in a wide range of subjects. Most of these are taught in English. Arrangements will be made for the student to participate in foreign language Spanish classes, unless their linguistic ability is already advanced in the language. As a compulsory part of the syllabus, religion is taught once a week, with some emphasis on the Roman Catholic faith. If they so desire, parents may request that their child is opted out of this class, in which case a general studies course will be set. Older students in S3 and S4 (grades 10 and 11) follow University of Cambridge IGCSE courses in a narrower range of subjects. Sixth form students (grades 12 and 13) follow either an intensive one year pre-university course - taught almost entirely in Spanish - for entry to a Peruvian university, or the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma course. On arrival, every attempt will be made by the Director of Studies to match the student's classes as closely as possible with similar subjects taught at a similar level as those in the home school. The home school may arrange for a maximum of one specialised home school subject not taught at Markham to be made accessible via email or Internet, so that it may be followed in supported self-access mode. |
